Hi there,

Honesty is a good place to start. It's better to honest and confused, then to be deluding yourself with a belief that you don't truly hold to.

I've been a Christian all of my life, but about three years ago I had a "crisis of faith" experience in which I almost became an Atheist. In the midst of the spiritual turmoil, I determined to do two things: 1) seek out and follow truth wherever it led, and 2) don't make any rash decisions. Looking back on the experience, I'm a lot wiser and a lot stronger in my faith than I was before...but I digress...

One of the important things to understand about God is that it truly does need to be a "relationship", as you alluded to. Think about what you do for the really good relationships you have with other people. You probably talk with them frequently, and at a very deep level. You do things together, share things together. You rely on each other, you're there for each other through thick and thin. All these things are important for a relationship with God too. Communication through prayer and worship and reading Scripture is essential. Participating in the community of God's people and working in His ministry is critical too. Trusting in Him as a child trusts his/her parents, knowing that He loves you and has your best interests at heart even when you don't understand what He's doing or are angry at Him for something is important too.

If by "evidence" for God you are looking for scientific evidence or proof, you will not find any. Nor will you find any scientific evidence or proof that God does not exist. This is because science has limits. Science is the study of things within nature - people, animals, plants, matter, energy, time, etc. It collects data about these things, observes these things, experiments with these things, and invents mathematical models and descriptions to show how these things interact and behave. But God is distinct from nature; He does not belong to any of these categories; rather, He created them. God is beyond our ability to collect data, to experiment with; you don't truly observe God in His fullness, and you certainly can't derive a "God" equation that predicts His behavior. Indeed, the only way humans can truly know that God exists and to learn who God is, is by His own revelation; we can't get out of the box of our universe, but God can enter into the box of our universe.

God created us and the rest of creation for the same reason that parents choose to bring children into the world. Parents want to love and care for them, to teach them and take joy in them. Parents bring children in the world for these reasons in spite of the fact that they know that their children will not be perfect, and at times will be extremely frustrating and even hurtful. God is our Father in the same way, and just as we owe our parents a very special kind of respect and love just by virtue of their position, so too should we worship and love God.

Although the church as an institution was divinely established by Christ to carry forward His ministry into the world, the church is comprised of individuals who are imperfect and sinful, and who often times do not follow Christ's commandments and example. This is, to say the least, unfortunate, and is the reason why churches also establish procedures for discipline and (as a last resort) expulsion of members.

As to your last question, He has shown Himself. To use my earlier analogy, He has entered the box of our universe to reveal Himself. He has shown His "power and deity" in the majesty of creation and the laws He created to govern it - in this we find that God is awesome, that God is beautiful, that God is rational, that God is a God of both diversity within order. He has spoken through the prophets of the Old Testament, and through them we learn that God is Holy, that God demands justice and mercy, that God requires righteousness and worship, that God interacts with and shapes the events of human history, and that God is working especially through the convenant established with the people of Israel - which carries for them both a great responsibility (to be God's ambassadors to all the world) and great privilege (that they are the first recipients of God's revelation). And finally, He came to earth in the physical person of Jesus Christ. He entered into human history, at a particular time and in a particular place, and through His Incarnation, death, and resurrection, God revealed that He is Lord of life and death, that in suffering there is also redemption and hope, that in serving the "least of these" we see God most clearly, that the covenant will be renewed in the form of the church until the day when Christ comes in glory again, and that He loves us so deeply that He would sacrifice all to save us from our sinfulness and bring us even more fully into His presence.

Okay, so this was a little longer than I originally intended :) But I hope it helped in some way. If you take noth
References :
Hi Chris, I'll be glad to answer your questions truthfully. It's best that you go to another church since this one is not a god-fearing church like some are. There is more of a presence of the Lord in Pentecostal or Charismatic churches usually. Also, if you see a revival like a crusade going on, I recommend that you go to that and respond so that they will pray with you. You do need help and God loves you very much.

God does show up many times for many people, but most religions and most churches are not doing well. In fact, most religions are false or half false. Do you have a New Testament? Read the book of John 5 times and the more you draw near to the Lord, the more he draws near to you.

I don't know your age, and pray asking God for forgiveness. You don't start communication with God unless you repented of your sins. Pray and ask Jesus to come into your life and be Lord and Savior of your life. I'll find a few verses for you.

Salvation:

For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

If we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us all our sins, and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. I John 1:9

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man (or woman or child) hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and sup with him and he with me. Revelation 3:20

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, and times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 3:19

For as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them who believe on His name. John 1:12

If any man (woman or child) be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. II Corinthians 5:17

Any more questions or need for prayer, check my profile and click on my email. God bless you.

You will never be able to logically prove that there is a god. There is no evidence that he exists. If he did exist, it would seem that he could at least show himself to us so that we would not be so confused. But he doesn't. I can only assume that he does not exist, or that he is just not concerned with being fair. I think it would only be fair for him to make it very clear of whether or not he exists and what his stance is on different issues and how we get to heaven, considering what is at stake (eternity). Obviously though, it is not clear because most people are confused about it and believe different things. There is not one clear truth. I say don't worry about it. Get on with your life. You will save time and money.

As far as the priests, I am sure most are not like that. There are a few that give them a bad name. But they are just humans and aren't any smarter than you. What they do or say really makes no difference as to whether religion is actually true or not.
References :
----Im not sure if god exist.

Lots of people aren't sure. You're normal for questioning it.

----I dont think i ever had a solid relationship with god because my parents never took me to church much.

Church doesn't necessarily make people believe in god any more or less than they would.

-----If god is real why is there NO evidence?

Those who believe give mainly anecdotal evidence, but they certainly can't provide scientific evidence. There's no evidence that a god doesn't exist either, but it's up to you whether that means you want to believe or not.

-----What is the point of god putting us here on earth and how could he create the entire universe including possible life elsewhere?

That's part of the idea of omnipotence (being all-powerful). If you believe in the Christian god, then the idea is simple enough to accept. However, you can find sufficient naturalistic explanations.

----If church is supposed to be pure then why do some priests steal the money from the church like my pastor at fellowship church lol...

A church is made up of people. People aren't perfect.

----And most of all why does god not show himself? why has he never shown himself?

One of the reasons I don't believe in god.
