How do I go about starting a home Church or a home Bible study?
January 312010
I miss belonging to a Church and spending time with fellow believers. Organized religion has not worked out very well however.
Too many cliques and other problems.
I’d like to get together with others for fellowship hopefully in each others homes. It seems like it would be a comfortable setting. How would I go about initiating this? We would need a person very knowledgeable about the Bible. Where would you look to find such a person? I would rather not go to the people from my former Church as I feel bad and embarrassed about leaving.
Any ideas on where to start would be greatly appreciated!
Please don’t misunderstand, I don’t want to lead this group. I have no business doing anything like that. I want to learn and discuss and share faith with others. I miss being with like minded people.
Taking turns, meeting at each others homes is a good way to meet and when you get together it is best to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and have a subject (such as God’s love) and take turns around the room reading the scripture and letting the Holy Spirit teach by revelation as each one reads the word let the Spirit of God give understanding;it’s better to come together in Him with prayer and praise and be open to Him rather than coming with a mind set on what you know or have been taught, asking Him to lead and guide into all truth like He promised
First John is a good place to start about God’s love and 1 Corinthians 13
the main thing is prayer, that is essential as a base

Excuse me??
You can not start a home bible study or home church without some kind of organized structure.
Someone has to lead, and he is called Pastor, even if that is you..
Will you not take offerings to pay the bills that the meetings generate?
Will you not designate someone to lead the singing that has the ability to sing well? Song leader..
If your home church grows you will need Ushers, and even a board to run things if it gets very big.
God sends these people that have the gifts to run a church and God gives them the ability..
You can not stop people that are gossips and trouble makers from coming to your church or you will be eliminating sinners from coming.
Your own group when it is small will be a clique, and when it gets bigger it will have cliques in it..
If cliques are the only reason you left your old church, then go back and be a little humble, and take your place in the body of Christ..

First off, never feel embaressed about leaving a church, because no one will judge you, you are always welcomed, and even if they do, its Gods home, so you have every right to enter it
Well what me and my fellowship brothers do, we gather together, we all have the same knowledge and listen to an online pastor (www.joncourson.com) and study the message together
Attend a Church, they all have those meetings, and gatherings, they are wonderful and relaxing, I know what you mean, its beautiful :]
Good luck and God bless

i think you should start out going to a church you like first, instead of making your own. You need to listen to someone who is familiar with the Bible, like a pastor, because if you think you are familiar with the word of God and you really arent, you may end up teaching people something that isnt true.

If you can’t find someone who is very knowledgeable, get some good books to read and discuss.
I highly recommend this book: http://www.benyehudapress.com/catalog/YCT/index.html
It was written by Jewish people, but after all, all the prophets in the Christain "Old Testament" were Jewish! And, the book is fantastic.
PS This is not proselytizing, Judaism is strongly against trying to get people to convert, I just think that you would enjoy this book, and I’m happy when people learn about the kings of Israel, Saul, David, and Solomon, and about Shmuel the prophet, and the judges, such as Samson (Shimshon), Devorah, Gidon etc. Basically, whenever people learn what I enjoy learning.
Also, don’t read the Old Testament in Old English. It was not written in Old English, it was written in Hebrew, then translated into greek, and then into latin, and then into English. Pick a version with understandable english, trust me, the hebrew is not as "ancient" sounding as the English of King James.

First of all, God gave each of us the scriptures and not just those who are knowledgeable! You can learn a lot from just reading and studying on your own….If I were to start a group like that, I would probably start and end every meeting asking for God’s guidance in the study. Maybe have it be more casual, where you read and discuss a chapter or two. You can learn a lot from other Christian’s too!!
Good Luck!!

We (Jehovah’s Witnesses) conduct free home Bible studies with people. Contrary to what is commonly stated here, we do allow everyone to use their own copies of the Bible, and we encourage everyone to look up the scriptures to see for themselves whether or not what we are saying is true.
If you would like someone to contact you, please click the "Yes" button in the Your Personal Invitation box at the lower-right of this website: http://www.watchtower.org/ and fill out the form at the next link. There is no obligation, and it is something we enjoy doing very much. You can find out more about our beliefs on that website as well.
