Would You Attend This College?

March 42010

Hyles Anderson College in Crown Point, IN.

From it’s website:

MAYBE YOU WOULDN’T LIKE…
OUR DRESS CODE
Many think our dress code is too strict. Skirts above the knees are not allowed. Men must wear neckties to class and must have short haircuts. Young ladies may not wear shorts or slacks.
OUR OLD-FASHIONED DISCIPLINE
Young ladies are not allowed to go off campus unchaperoned. Young men and young ladies may not date alone in cars. Absolutely no hand holding or other intimacies are allowed between the sexes. There are date nights with bus transportation and adequate chaperones provided by the college. Student insubordination is absolutely forbidden.
OUR INTENSE EVANGELISTIC ATMOSPHERE
All faculty, staff, and students are required to go soul winning weekly. Students participate in the evangelistic ministry of the First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana.
OUR FUNDAMENTALIST EMPHASIS
We are fundamentalists and use the term proudly. We believe in a literal Hell which has fire and brimstone and a literal Heaven with streets of gold. We stand for the King James Bible as the only Bible and the local New Testament church as the only true church. We believe in redemption through the blood of Christ, salvation by grace through faith alone, and the premillennial second coming of Jesus Christ.
OUR SEPARATIST POSITION
Absolutely no drinking, smoking, or dancing is allowed. No student is allowed to attend Hollywood movies, play cards, or participate in other questionable amusements. We do not fellowship with liberals, but instead take a strict separatist stand from the world and apostasy.
OUR EMPHASIS ON CULTURE
We believe in students learning and practicing propriety. We oppose the paganistic, barbaric humanism that prevails on many campuses. We believe in refinement, dignity, courtesy, proper manners, and Christian grace.
OUR EMPHASIS ON THE PRACTICAL
We blend the finest of scholarship with the best practical teaching possible. We teach not only what to do but how to do it.

i could deal with the dress code but they lost me on the rest i would be kicked out in 8 hours for smoking

Setting up rules like that is like trying to hide in an idealized past, like an ostrich burying its head in the sand. When its graduates wander out into the real world, they will be at a disadvantage because they will not have learned to think for themselves and therefore will fall more easily into the traps and temptations all around them. Talk about counterproductive strategies!

I wouldn’t and I don’t think Jesus could be admitted either, but this is your choice and your life and you have the right to live your life and attend college where you are happy.

As to my liking it, I don’t think it would be the right school for me.As to Jesus, going to your school he never could.

    Reasons:
Didn’t wear a tie and wouldn’t today, wore sandals or went barefoot.

Often alone with Mary Magdelene and she rubbed his feet in ointment (a rather intimate thing) on many occasions, was insubordinate with the other rabbis, pharisees and scribes as early as age 12 and continued to challenge them throughout his life. Cleared the temple of merchants in a fit of rage, which would have been insubordination for sure. Was both a religious and political revolutionary.

He did win souls but not the way many interpret, much more concerned with social welfare than with legalistic interpretations of what sin is. Stating that love covers a multitude of sins.

Jesus never spoke of a fiery hell, one way or another, but did speak of the kingdom of heaven, however never described it in streets of gold terms. Didn’t say it was or wasn’t, just didn’t say.

Would challenge the KJV bible. Bible scholars (I’m one) now know through going back to original manuscripts, that king James specifically had certain things added to the bible to help his monarchy. Render unto Caesar what is Caesars, is a case in point. Does not appear in Aramaic or Greeks manuscripts as many pro-tax or pro-monarchy passages do in the KJV. He also taught, as did Paul that faith without works is dead.

Drank and celebarted at the Canaan wedding and drank wine (real fermented wine) on numerous occasions, though appaently not to excess. The wedding was a Jewish wedding and would have included, in that day, men dancing with men and women dancing with women in celebration of the couples new and happy life. Jesus did felowship with liberals and other people who thought as he did. His actions as to dealing with people would be most closely defined as liberal, tolerant socialism today. He mingled with fishermen (very low on the social chain), prostitutes (Mary Magdelene), Lepers, even healing them, shepards (again very disrespected at the time) and Samaritans, who were regarded as the lowest of the low in Jewish and religious society. He also pardoned many sinners, including a dying thief. All of these were apostate at the time and would be today.

Jesus challenged accepted culture of the time and dined with questionable people and challenged most culturally accepted Pharisaic laws and rules.

Jesus did tell us how to treat others andlive a good life and also showed us how, but it is now mostly mis-interpreted.

Simply, He’d never get through the gate Hyles-Anderson for an interview, let alone be allowed to attend.

Please understand, I respect your right and choice to attend there and live your life that way. I respect that you interpret Christianity in the way you do. I only ask respect back for my liberal interpretation based upon deep. scholarly study.

God Bless you my friend! I’m glad you’re happy with your college, that is very important!

Peace to you. I wish you much happiness.

Dont bother. Save your money and your time. I grew up under those same religious beliefs and went to another college that taught the same. If you need someone to tell you what to think, go join a cult.
