Mormons, Catholics, and all: What do you think of the following comment?

March 62010

"On behalf of all of us in the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, I wish to epress our sincere condolences a the passing of President James E. Faust. Although I am still getting to know people in Utah, I am nonetheless familiar with President Faust and his singular service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to the people of Utah.

"I ask all Catholics to kindly keep President Faust, his wife, Ruth, his family, and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in their prayers, asking our loving God to grant President Faust the fullness of his eternal kingdom.

"May this just and honorable man rest in peace."

-Bishop John C. Wester of the Diocese of Salt Lake City

Religious differences aside, don’t we all really wish the best for each of our fellow men and women?

I offer my personal condolences to LDS people everywhere and commend Bishop Wester for his kind interfaith fellowship of the LDS Church.
PS: President Faust was a Democrat… I didn’t know that! Interesting what all we learn about people once they die.

I wouldn’t have expected anything else from a leader in the Catholic Church. I’m grateful for his concern and understanding.

Edit: He did go to the U so I’m not so suprised that he was a Dem. ;-)

Im not sure if i believe in god. help?

March 62010

im going to be completely honest here.

Im not sure if god exist.
I dont think i ever had a solid relationship with god because my parents never took me to church much.
If god is real why is there NO evidence?
What is the point of god putting us here on earth and how could he create the entire universe including possible life elsewhere?
If church is supposed to be pure then why do some priests steal the money from the church like my pastor at fellowship church lol…
And most of all why does god not show himself? why has he never shown himself?

"If god is real why is there NO evidence?" because anything as powerful as we see god to be would also have to be beyond our reasoning and logic so even if we found possible evidence we could not be able to understand it
"What is the point of god putting us here on earth" You can not expect to understand gods will
"If church is supposed to be pure…" because humans have a lot of good intentions that are not fulfilled
"And most of all why does god not show himself? why has he never shown himself?" Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

what is the best thing to do? just stay, try to love them, help out or move to different church?

March 62010

I been going to this church for about 6 months now. My uncle introduced me to that church after I came back to the state from long term Mission trip. At first, they told me to lead high school ministry. I was excited and set up plans to attend seminary since they were going to support me financially. However things did not go well. After they bought a new church building, they did not have enough money to support me to do ministry so I set aside and looking for job now. I want to help out with high school, however, the young adult service is not too good. People are not too spiritual, they drink, not really into like prayer meetings. They seem to value fellowship more than spiritual things like Missions, bible study, and prayer. The young adult service is not helping me spirtually at all and it is making me judge the leaders although I want to help out with the high school. What is the best thing for me to do? Move to different church with better/ spiritual peope or stay??

What makes you think you are right? You have a fervent faith but have not done the training.

You show the classic signs of a Christian who is going off the rails and thinking they know far better than church elders, the Pope and anyone else.

Carry on with the way you are thinking and if Jesus returns in a few years you will be telling him he got it all wrong!!!!!

What do you do at church? in fellowship?

March 62010

Hi. I’m inviting a good friend of mine to church, she’s a nonbeliever. I’ve already explained everything we usually do. She doesn’t believe me, could you guys just briefly explain the stuff you ppl do at church? She’s going to view this question later to make sure I’m not lying. Thanks you guys.
I’m christian, and it’s a baptist church.

My church is my 2nd family, and actually my family are unbelievers so its really a hard thing because I think I am closer to my church family than to my real family (mom and dad and bros etc).

Anyways we do everything together, kids birthdays together, dinners, lots of phone conversations, we have smaller house group bible studies throughout the week- I go to a women’s group wednesday mornings and then we have another family study group on Tuesday nights.

If I ever need anything, someone to pick up one of my kids from school cause im running late, or I ran out of gas and need help, or need a ride to the airport, or oh once our basement flooded and some of our friends from church came and brought everything up into the garage for us- any time we need something we are there for each other.

As far as at church we usually have coffee and donuts and catch up on how things are going. Its pretty laid back and friendly.

Hope that helps! God bless!!

Why are Wahabbists instituted at Georgetown University, while these Christian student groups are banned?

March 62010

Since Georgetown enjoys such a prominent role in the political realm of our Republic, I ask this in the Politics section.

excerpts from an October 2006 article "Georgetown U. expels Protestant Organizations:

"Evangelical student organizations have had a place at many Catholic universities for decades.

"But for the groups at Georgetown University, a Jesuit campus, news that Protestant organizations were being expelled came as a shock.

"In mid-August, the leaders of six campus organizations received a letter from chaplain Rev. Constance Wheeler, claiming that “restructuring” the Protestant campus ministry leaves no room for “affiliated ministries,” and that such things as Bible studies, mid-week worship, retreats with Georgetown students or helping students move in are no longer permitted.

"The affected ministries include InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (Undergraduate), InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (Graduate), Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, Georgetown Community Church, Crossroad Campus Christian Fellowship and Asian Baptist Student Koinonia.

"Some of the groups are making plans to meet off campus. Georgetown may allow students to start their own student-led religious groups on campus.

"While private universities have the freedom to set policies that may be more restrictive than public campuses, in this case the organizations’ leaders are surprised about what has happened.

“What confuses many of us here close to the situation at Georgetown is this,” says Kevin Offner, a staff worker with InterVarsity’s Graduate and Faculty Ministries.

“What have the six ejected affiliated Protestant ministries done wrong that has merited their expulsion?

Whenever a Georgetown administrator is asked this question, the answer is always, ‘Nothing—we’re simply restructuring.’”
______________

Perhaps helping students move in is a radical activity?

http://www.intervarsity.org/studentsoul/item/georgetown-chapter

Resonance beyond the campus:

"Georgetown is one of a few universities that receive money from the federal government under Title VI of the Higher Education Act for Middle East Studies centers to develop approved K-12 Middle East curriculum. This program has been used by the Saudis to circumvent educational oversight.

.

Good question. Maybe that staff needs a little "restructuring".
I feel these occurrences throughout the world are all part of the same effort. The destruction of Christianity. Something is happening on a spiritual level.

Christians: If you don’t go to church and fellowship with other Christians…?

March 62010

how are you connected to the head (which is Jesus Christ) if you are not in the body (which is the church – other believers)?

How are you doing your part of edifying the body and bearing fruit?

Jesus said where two or more are gathered, he is there also. It is important for believers to glorify God by coming together in one accord. Yet, the question remains, how many. Jesus said two or more. So I believe from two to what ever number is considered church.

Yet, it is important to understand that God has established an order on what and how things are to occur in the church. This is done with one being the head, which is Christ, and then those assigned by the Lord to watch over his flock, feeding and protecting them through Christ. This is done in most cases, not just by two, but yet could be.
