For all the people curious about the Mormon religion and Christians?

March 42010

I am a mormon and I have a ? for all you christians out there. Mind you I do not want this to be a Mormon bashing fun or anything like that. Plus if you call yourself christian you would say nothing as apouse to saying something negative or scripture slinging. There are different bibles and versions hence we could do that all day. But that is the spirit of contention.

If there was another book with a testimony of Christ isn’t it worth checking out and praying about?

Isn’t it our duty to seek all doctrines and read them and see if the holy ghost backs it or not?

What hapened to using the holy ghost to make decisions?

If you got that feeling would you change your life?

Do you go too church for fellowship or God?

I have had my confermation but I fear many have never actually read or even read the summary of the book of Mormon and you could be missing out on some awesome doctrine. Please read pray without pre reserved thoughts and see what happens.
To answer certain ?’s Mormons do not have anything against black people. Many are my friends in church. If you are miss interputing scripture then read it again. Why did the color of skin change between cain and abel.. ? I dont know but I am still praying and God will answer me in his due time. That applies for the skin color changing of the lamanites. Oh and to you unchristlike people I will not respond to negative or nasty comments. You are entitled to your opinion. I live by example.

I’m a Mormon and I’m shocked at these answers… Many of them tell us how I supposedly believe.

We don’t believe we are saved by works. We are saved by the grace and atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ.. At the same time though, faith without works is dead. Can you really look the savior in the face and say, I’ve accepted you as my redeemer, if you won’t even follow His commandments?

What makes so many people think God can’t or won’t bring His gospel in fullness back to the earth? Look at all the confusion between Christian sects…Do you think God is the author of such strife?

What happened to ‘by their fruits ye shall judge them’.
The Church of Jesus Christ on the whole, not as individuals, produces more Christians who are family oriented, honest and true to their faith than any other faith.

I bear my testimony, that I know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is God’s church, restored through and unbroken line of priesthood authority. It teaches the Saviors gospel in fullness. I testify that Joseph Smith was and is a Prophet of God and he really did see Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ.
I also testify that you don’t need to take my word alone. Heavenly Father will let you know the truth of all things through the Holy Spirit, if you will pray with real intent. Ask in faith, though careful study. I say these things in and through my Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ amen.

I just moved to a new town and I’m looking for a new church. I’m in recovery and I went to a recovery based?

March 42010

church in my previous city for over the last 3 years. I heard about one in my new city that is simliar to my old, mentioned going, and my new sponsor told me that she doesn’t "allow" her sponsees to go there… I live in a small town and there aren’t a lot of people who "have what I want" so I don’t want to drop her, but I think that is obsurd. She said it is because people mix sprituality with religion, but I am honest with myself enough to know that I have already been going to a simliar deal for 3+ years, I DON’T do that, and it has enhanced my sprituality, and I really think it’s important for me to continue on. I’m really bad about having a huge ego and not listening to suggestions, and it has lead me to a miserable 6 months of self-will run riot, so I’m trying to get out of that. I’ve thought about listening to my old churches pod casts instead, but I wouldn’t have that common fellowship from attending. I’ve also thought of going to the other more distant services where nobody would recognize me. Other than this, she is a really great, wise, smart, teacher, and I’m ready to learn from her, but I think it’s obsurd to tell someone that they can be Christian, but forbid them to go to a certain church. She is a chaplin and she said she picked being a chaplin instead of going into ministry because she is interested in "your relationship with God, not the specifics of a particular religion", but I feel that this totally contradicts that.

sponsors can "suggest" not demand. remember, recovery is not one size fits all—my program works well for me, but it might make you utterly miserable.
i was told early on that the answer to the question "how do i stay clean/sober?" is HONESTY, OPEN MINDEDNESS, AND WILLINGNESS! (is your sponsor showing an open mind?)

if your sponsor is not open minded, it may be time for you to stand up to her.

another thing i learned early on, the 12 steps can save your ass, church may save your soul,…i go to church to enhance my spiritual understanding/relationship, and just like meetings-i take some ideas home and leave some there because i do not believe in cookie cutter religion,…

p.s. i only have one MUST for my sponsees, (don’t drink or use, no matter what!)

wht is the question?

Just A Question? What about Sunday Fellowship BUT No Relgion, God or Bible Allowed? Any Thoughts?

March 42010

From the first glance on the outside it would be just like church (people gathering), however, there would be distinct differences such as; No infused religion, hoops, policies and proceedures to follow, no pressure of giving 10% of money becuase you may already behind on bills and necessities and so forth. No one telling you suck and that you are a SINNER and unless you follow the prescribed and predetermined route of B-L-A-N-K denomination you will end up if hell.

Just a sincere "Come as you are How you are"! Would anyone else besides me considering doing this?

See, while I do not attend church (Of Any Kind) for reasons not important to this question; As a human being, I do miss the fellowship, gathering and meeting of people on a level that has no agenda. Just hanging out, perhaps drinking a cup of coffee, letting family and kids mix with one another and building a support system all the while having fun.

Bottom Line – It is church with religion; Would You Go?

OK, so why does it have to be on Sunday? Why call it "fellowship"? Why not just have it any day of the week and call it what it really is–a party? You see, you are still binding yourself to the premise of it being a bit like "church" even though you’re trying so hard not to. Disclaimer: I am a Christian. Many of the things that you say characterize Christians are very stereotypical and untrue. I’ve never in my life told someone they "suck" or that they "have to give money." You know why? I’m not the "assistant" Holy Spirit. That’s not my job. My job is to live my life according to what I believe and let that be my testimony. All Christians are not hypocritical legalists, even though there are many out there.
And you can have a fellowship that’s Christ-centered without it being legalist or fundamentalist. It all depends on how YOU lead it. I’m not trying to offend you; I’m just saying, your idea is so thoroughly rooted in Christianity, that it’s tough to totally separate it. And I’m also saying that it doesn’t have to be like the not-so-good experiences that it seems like you may have had in the past. God bless.

Would You Attend This College?

March 42010

Hyles Anderson College in Crown Point, IN.

From it’s website:

MAYBE YOU WOULDN’T LIKE…
OUR DRESS CODE
Many think our dress code is too strict. Skirts above the knees are not allowed. Men must wear neckties to class and must have short haircuts. Young ladies may not wear shorts or slacks.
OUR OLD-FASHIONED DISCIPLINE
Young ladies are not allowed to go off campus unchaperoned. Young men and young ladies may not date alone in cars. Absolutely no hand holding or other intimacies are allowed between the sexes. There are date nights with bus transportation and adequate chaperones provided by the college. Student insubordination is absolutely forbidden.
OUR INTENSE EVANGELISTIC ATMOSPHERE
All faculty, staff, and students are required to go soul winning weekly. Students participate in the evangelistic ministry of the First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana.
OUR FUNDAMENTALIST EMPHASIS
We are fundamentalists and use the term proudly. We believe in a literal Hell which has fire and brimstone and a literal Heaven with streets of gold. We stand for the King James Bible as the only Bible and the local New Testament church as the only true church. We believe in redemption through the blood of Christ, salvation by grace through faith alone, and the premillennial second coming of Jesus Christ.
OUR SEPARATIST POSITION
Absolutely no drinking, smoking, or dancing is allowed. No student is allowed to attend Hollywood movies, play cards, or participate in other questionable amusements. We do not fellowship with liberals, but instead take a strict separatist stand from the world and apostasy.
OUR EMPHASIS ON CULTURE
We believe in students learning and practicing propriety. We oppose the paganistic, barbaric humanism that prevails on many campuses. We believe in refinement, dignity, courtesy, proper manners, and Christian grace.
OUR EMPHASIS ON THE PRACTICAL
We blend the finest of scholarship with the best practical teaching possible. We teach not only what to do but how to do it.

i could deal with the dress code but they lost me on the rest i would be kicked out in 8 hours for smoking

Is A Church Suppose To Have A ATM In It?

March 42010

its this church called Christian Faith Fellowship, and they have a ATM in it…..is that a good thing or a bad thing?…..i hope alot of churches isnt about money

I think many, if not most, churches are ‘about the money’. But I’ve never heard of a church being so brazen about it.

If it’s a church you frequent or are thinking about frequenting, only you can decide about that church specifically.

Christians:- What do you think of this quote ‘Richard Halverson’ ?

March 22010

"In the beginning the church was a fellowship of men and women centering on the living Christ. Then the church moved to Greece where it became a philosophy. Then it moved to Rome where it became an institution. Next, it moved to Europe , where it became a culture. And, finally, it moved to America wh…ere… it became an enterprise." —Richard Halverson
Edit:- "by Richard Halverson"

Actually the church began as a suicide-cult, then it grew into a bureaucracy. But it has never deviated from its first love, which is money.

Did mankind solve God’s loneliness problem?

March 22010

I have heard a number of theologians (e.g., Rabbi Pinchas Peli) say that God wanted "fellowship", and that’s why he made humans.

But if you wanted fellowship, wouldn’t you want it with someone like you? I need the fellowship of other English-speaking humans, ideally around my age group. Humans are so far below God, it would be like us creating a world full of puppies for companionship, instead of other humans.

We are made in his image, but that’s not saying much. We are flawed, sinful, non-omnipotent, we smell bad and have to pee every few hours, we aren’t invisible, can’t fly, can’t communicate with "thought-waves" with each other, we’re forgetful, and most of us find church boring.

Why would God want that kind of companionship?

Why does everyone have to go by a book written thousands of years ago and 400 years after Christ?

Why do some Christian ministers hurt other Christians?

March 22010

The Church is meant to be a refuge for emotionally drained and hurting people. How come some leaders in the ministry do more harm to people than do them good by bombarding them with ministry rules and regulations that don’t help at all but rather move people’s hearts away from the LOVE that is supposed to be overflowing in a church fellowship?

never heard of that!!!
maybe they arent true christians.
